Named for a hill that stood at Park Avenue and 70th Street, this elegant neighborhood is enviably positioned between Fifth Avenue and the East River in the 60s and 70s, with a high concentration of luxury hotels, boutiques, restaurants, and some of the most exclusive addresses in the city. Fifth and Park Avenues are lined with stately residential buildings, and limestone mansions, some occupied by international embassies, can be found just off the park. New developments have sprouted up east of Third Avenue, buoyed by the new subway line. The Met Breuer and the Frick Collection have created destinations for art and culture, and the Park Avenue Armory hosts avant-garde installations and performances.
